In case of average
In case of a average, Codan Marine is part of an insurance company that offers immediate aid. We have extensive experience in handling all kinds of accidents and provide assistance - be it in the form of advice or help of a more practical nature - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
When damage has occurred or suspected to had occurred, it is important that both the owners of the vessel AND the underwriters are notified as soon as is practicable so that we may offer advice and assistance from the very beginning. This applies to minor damage discovered during routine inspections and not just critical situations demanding important and rapid decision-making.
It is better to provide too much information than too little!
Codan Marine's Handbook
is a guideline for actions to be taken in the event of an accident. Though impossible to anticipate all hazardous situations, good seaman-ship is imperative, and the safety of life and the environment is of paramount importance.
Important aspects of Hull and Machinery Insurance:
- notification and information - documentation - the protection of legal rights, both in relation to those with a claim against the vessel for the damage it has caused, and in relation to those liable for the damage caused to the vessel
Do not forget that third party liability - arising out of a direct contact between the vessels and fixed or floating object - is often covered by the vessel's hull policy.
